About Crest Theater
Our Story
A Sacramento landmark since 1912, the Crest Theater has been entertaining audiences for over a century with live performances in an Art Deco setting.
Over a Century of Entertainment
The Crest Theater first opened its doors in 1912 as the Empress Theatre, bringing the magic of vaudeville and silent films to downtown Sacramento. In its early years, the theater hosted everything from touring stage shows to the latest motion pictures, quickly becoming a beloved community gathering place.
The 1940s brought a dramatic transformation when the theater was extensively renovated in the Art Deco style that defines it today. The geometric patterns, ornate details, and elegant lighting fixtures that visitors admire were all added during this golden era of American design.
Today, the Crest Theater continues its legacy as Sacramento's entertainment venue, hosting an eclectic mix of concerts, comedy shows, film screenings, and special events. Each performance carries forward over a century of theatrical tradition.
